ANASTASIOS KARAMPELAS

Chemical Engineer, PhD

Professor Anastasios J. Karabelas holds degrees in Chemical Engineering (Diploma, National Technical University of Athens; MS and PhD, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA). He was employed (1970-1978) as a Senior Research Engineer at the Shell Westhollow Research Center, Houston. Since 1978, as Professor of the Chemical Engineering Department at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, contributed to its development.

He is a founding member of Chemical Process Engineering Research Institute (CPERI), at the Centre for Research and Technology – Hellas (CERTH) in Thessaloniki, heading the Laboratory of Natural Resources and Renewable Energies since 1985. His research interests include multiphase flow processes, colloidal systems and membrane separations, with applications to process equipment design and water treatment (desalination, purification).

He has coordinated many R&D projects, supervised numerous theses and published over 200 peer-reviewed papers. He has organized several international and national scientific events. Professor Karabelas has served in various technical and science policy committees in Greece and abroad, including the Board of Governors of the Joint Research Centre of European Union (1984-1991) representing Greece.

PANAGIOTIS SALIAKELLIS

Chemical Engineer, PhD

Panagiotis received his Diploma of Chemical Engineer from the Chemical Engineering department of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) in 2011. He obtained his PhD from the same department in 2018, under the supervision of Professor Stergios G. Yiantsios, and since then he is working as a PostDoc Researcher at NRRE.

His main research interests focus on the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modelling and simulations with parallel processing utilization, specializing in particulate flows, and he has recently been involved in the flow and mass transfer simulations of spiral wound membranes (SWM). He has participated in numerous national and international conferences and his research activities resulted in 2 peer-reviewed scientific papers.
